Frequently Asked Questions

How does the sourcing process work?

We act as your eyes in Japan, monitoring over 140 auction houses and dealer networks every day to find suitable vehicles.

At the beginning, we prepare a sample vehicle offer based on your requirements and budget. You receive a real example of a car, along with a full cost breakdown, so you can see what your ideal vehicle would realistically cost "on the road" in Ireland.

If you decide to move forward, you place a refundable security deposit. We then begin the detailed verification of that vehicle and continue searching for additional options if the first one doesn't meet your expectations.

You decide which car you want to proceed with. We only move forward after your approval.

How does the import process work?

The process is simple and fully managed. We start with a consultation and budget check, followed by a refundable deposit. We then source and verify suitable vehicles for you. Once you approve a car, we purchase it on your behalf, handle shipping, customs, and registration, and deliver it fully road-ready in Ireland. Learn more »

What if I'm not sure where to start?

That's completely normal. We begin with a consultation where we discuss your preferences, budget, and expectations. You'll receive a clear overview of realistic options and total costs before any commitment is made. To get started, simply fill in the form available on the Home or Start Vehicle Sourcing pages.

What is the security deposit for?

The security deposit allows us to begin the sourcing process on your behalf. It also allows us to focus on your project, act quickly when the right car appears, and protect the transaction during the sourcing and purchase process.

No vehicle is purchased and no costs are incurred without your approval.

How much is the deposit?

The required deposit depends on your total planned budget. The deposit is a minimum of €2,000 or 10%, whichever is higher. The exact amount is confirmed with you before the sourcing process begins.

Is the deposit refundable?

Yes. If you decide not to proceed before a vehicle is purchased, the deposit is refundable according to our Terms of Service.

In line with EU consumer protection rules, you may request a full refund of your deposit at any time within 14 days of making the payment.

However, if during the sourcing process we find a vehicle you wish to purchase within that 14-day period, you will be asked to sign a Waiver of the Right of Withdrawal before we proceed with the purchase. This allows us to complete the transaction on your behalf without delay.

When do I pay the remaining balance?

After you select and approve a vehicle during the sourcing process, we complete the purchase on your behalf using the deposit already in place.

Once the purchase is confirmed, you will receive a final invoice with the exact balance for the vehicle and Dasko-JDM Direct Management Fee. You then have 3 working days to transfer the remaining amount so the export and shipping process can continue without delays.

What is Dasko-JDM Direct management fee?

The management fee is our service fee for handling the entire import process from start to finish. It covers all coordination, communication, and administration required to deliver your vehicle legally and safely to Ireland.

The Management Fee includes:

  • initial consultation and budget verification,

  • vehicle sourcing based on your requirements,

  • market advice and realistic pricing guidance,

  • vehicle history and documentation checks,

  • condition verification and reporting,

  • communication with suppliers in Japan,

  • purchase coordination on your behalf,

  • payment handling and transaction supervision,

  • export deregistration in Japan,

  • export documentation and compliance checks,

  • booking and managing ocean shipping,

  • shipping documentation and tracking,

  • coordination with customs clearance agents,

  • import documentation handling,

  • port collection arrangements,

  • inland transport from the port,

  • VRT preparation and appointment coordination,

  • registration paperwork and compliance,

  • final handover coordination,

  • ongoing communication and updates throughout the process.

In short, the management fee covers the full end-to-end service, so you don't have to deal with multiple companies, paperwork, or complex logistics yourself.

Note. Additional inspections, specialist reports, or extra verifications can be arranged on request and are charged separately.

How is the management fee calculated?

The management fee depends on the total CIF value of the vehicle (Cost, Insurance, and Freight).

  • Up to €21,500 CIF: €1,500 fixed fee

  • €21,500 to €50,000 CIF: 7% of CIF value

  • €50,001 and over CIF: 6.5% of CIF value

The exact management fee is confirmed once the vehicle has been purchased.

What is CIF value?

CIF stands for Cost, Insurance, and Freight

It includes:

  • the vehicle purchase price,

  • Japan-side costs (transport, export, handling),

  • ocean shipping to Ireland.

The management fee is calculated using the vehicle's CIF value, not the overall on-the-road price.

Is the deposit the same as the management fee?

No. These are two separate things. The deposit confirms your commitment and allows us to begin the sourcing process. The management fee is our service fee for handling the entire import from start to finish. The deposit is fully credited toward the vehicle purchase, but the management fee is separate.

When are final costs confirmed?

During the sourcing process, you select a specific vehicle based on estimated total costs. Before any purchase is made, you receive a full cost breakdown, and we only proceed after your approval.

The final cost is confirmed once the vehicle has been purchased.

Do you sell the vehicles yourselves?

No. Dasko-JDM Direct acts as an intermediary. We source and secure vehicles on your behalf from trusted suppliers in Japan, and we manage the entire import process for you.

Can I cancel after a vehicle is purchased?

Once a vehicle has been purchased on your behalf, the transaction cannot be cancelled, as funds are committed to third-party suppliers. All details and costs are confirmed with you before any purchase is made.

Can I request additional inspections?

Yes. If you would like extra inspections or reports, these can be arranged where available. Any additional inspection costs (if applicable) will always be confirmed with you in advance.
